Alan is the Executive Director of Human Resources and Organisational Development for NHS Lothian, based in Edinburgh with an annual revenue budget of £1.5bn and 26,000 staff over 700 square miles covering 4 local authority areas.  Alan is also a Senior Visiting Fellow in Human Resource Management and Leadership in the BusinessSchool at EdinburghNapierUniversity.

Alan’s current portfolio in NHS Lothian includes Human Resources, Organisational Development, Estates and Facilities, Communications, Equality, Complaints, Occupational Health and Safety, Leadership and Freedom of Information.

Alan joined NHS Lothian in 2007 and has worked in the NHS continuously since 1979, is a member of the Scottish Council of the Institute of Healthcare Management and is a former winner of the AON/CIPD Human Resources Director of the Year award.
