Trainee Clinical Scientist in Microbiology

Azul Zorzoli is a first-year Trainee Clinical Scientist in Microbiology at the Royal Infirmary Edinburgh. Azul has a background in Molecular Microbiology; completing her PhD in 2020, through which she characterised essential enzymes in the cell wall biosynthesis of the Group A Streptococcus. Previously, Azul did her Masters degree in the United States, working on a critical metabolic pathway and its role in Staphylococcus aureus’ pathogenesis. Azul’s undergraduate studies in Biochemistry took place in Argentina, her home country.  Currently, Azul is learning about virology diagnostics and taking part in validation projects.
