Chief Scientific Officer

The Welsh Government

Christine joined the Welsh Government in 2011 as the Deputy Chief Scientific Adviser and was appointed Acting Chief Scientific Advisor (Health) in 2014.  The Chief Scientific Adviser (Health) is responsible for providing professional advice to Welsh Government Ministers’ and colleagues on scientific professions and services in healthcare including:

•     radiology

•     pathology

•     radiotherapy

•     genetics

•     medical physics and clinical engineering

•     audiology

•     clinical physiology

•     radiation protection

Christine works collaboratively with Health Boards, other professionals and UK Government to develop scientific policies and strategies.

Prior to joining the Welsh Government Christine qualified as a biomedical scientist in haematology and transfusion from University Wales Institute Cardiff. She worked within the NHS for more than 30 years and in this period went on to gain further post graduate qualifications in areas including Biomedical Science, Medical Toxicology, quality management and Lean Six Sigma.

She worked in Bridgend and latterly across the Abertawe Bro Morgannwg University Health Board in various roles including Quality and Training Manager and General Manager of Pathology.
