Fiona Schaefer

Innovation Manager

Scottish Health Innovations Ltd

Fiona Schaefer joined the Scottish Health Innovations Ltd (SHIL) team in 2018 as an Innovation Manager. SHIL is the only organisation to work with NHS Scotland on commercialisation activity.  Fiona’s role is to encourage ideas and innovations from healthcare professionals, using well-established processes and experience to assess, protect, develop and commercialise.  This builds on Fiona’s career of championing the benefits of innovation and collaboration since gaining a Chemistry PhD from the University of Strathclyde over 20 years ago.  Fiona has worked across industry, academia and the public sector including Life Sciences, Food & Drink and the Creative Industries.  As co-founder of the Intellectual Assets Centre, she helped companies to identify, protect, develop and harness value from their ideas, knowledge and inventions.  At Interface she facilitated a wide range of business – academic collaborations enabling businesses to develop new and improved products and services; and at the University of Edinburgh’s College of Medicine and Veterinary Medicine, Fiona supported academics and clinicians to develop and submit funding applications working closely with the NHS.
