Head of Mechanical Engineering

Robin Sayer is a Chartered Mechanical Engineer and Head of Mechanical Engineering for the Department of Clinical Physics and Bioengineering, NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde.  He is based in the Medical Devices Unit (MDU).

The MDU is a mixed-discipline team of physicists, software, electronics and mechanical engineers; researching and evaluating emerging medical technologies and working with academic and industry partners to develop next generation medical devices.

Robin has a background in product design and mechanical design engineering. He started his career in industry, working for various consumer and commercial product manufacturers. Latterly he practised as a design consultant and gained extensive experience in the field of medical device innovation.

Robin is currently working with NSS to develop a business case for the wider adoption of 3D printing technologies in NHS Scotland, to improve patient treatment and care.
